Beside the Billabong is a collection of stories depicting the fun and games that five bush friends get up to as they live and play beside a billabong.

Many billabongs exist in the Australian bush and our billabong could be any one of these in any of the States or Territories of Australia. A billabong is formed when a river changes course and leaves the old part in place. This usually occurs in flat country.

Bunyips are mythical creatures that were supposed to have resided in the Australian bush but are thought to have been made extinct some centuries in the past. In our story a family of bunyips exist.

Possums are plentiful in many parts of our bush and several families of them live by our billabong.
